Inflation in Venezuela free essay sample
When speaking about the country of Venezuela, Nelson Merentes, the president of the Central Bank of Venezuela (Banco Central de Venezuela) also known as BCV said that an average inflation of 14% and 16% is estimated for this year, talking about 2013. In the other hand, William Neuman, New York Times writer says that ââ¬Å"Inflation for the 12 months ended on Jan. 31 was 26%, one of the highest rates in Latin America. â⬠Venezuela is the fifth largest economy in Latin America, but during the last decade, its been the worst performer in GDP growth, says Arturo Franco of the Center for International Development at Harvard University. What is GDP? It means Gross Domestic Product. ââ¬Å"An inflation-adjusted measure that reflects the value of all goods and services produced in a given year, expressed in base-year prices. Often referred to as constant-price, inflation-corrected GDP or constant dollar GDP. said by Investopedia. One problem that complicates their economy is the exesive printing of money. This means that there is more money but with less purchising power. People have more money with less value, so they want to spend it and accumulate goods, when there are not enough goods to satisfy their demand, then of course we have an increase in prices. The high inflation rate made the government create price controls, this causes product shortages leading campanies/businesses into a difficult situation sometimes driving them to bankrupcy. - Due to the huge inflation in Venezuela economists insist that an ââ¬Å"Inflation Spiralâ⬠may occur. This has a feedback effect, the spiral affects the rising prices for goods/services, wages, labour cost and the increase of cost of production. This starts by an initial rise in a the price of all goods/services then people start searching for higher wages and this makes the labour cost increase as well. The higher labour cost leads to an increase of cost of production and then the price of the goods/services given may increase drastically. Unenployment rate is higher when this ââ¬Å"Inflation Spiralâ⬠beggins. - - Venezuelanalysis informs that in November 22nd 2011, ââ¬Å"The Law for Fair Costs and Pricesâ⬠, was created to give stabilization to the prices of goods, this law will reduce inflation, currently at near 26% per year. This law also allows the government to control or limit the prices of goods/services. Representatives of the ministries of food, commerce, basic industries and mining, planning and financing, and the Venezuelan Central Bank (BCV) were involved in the elaboration of the law. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Bibliography * ââ¬Å"Definition of inflationâ⬠Medium: Internet, Seen: May 27 (http://www. investopedia. com/terms/i/inflation. asp) * ââ¬Å"BCV estimates 14% 16% if inflationâ⬠, Author: VTN, Medium: Internet, November 3rd 2012, Seen in May 28. Gamma Ray Penetration Of Lead essays
Gamma Ray Penetration Of Lead essays The amount of radiation that occurs to the matter depends on two things: what radiation is used. what material is used for absorption. There are three types of radiation; they are Alpha, Beta and Gamma. Gamma radiation has two types of radiation, nuclear which is dangerous and electromagnetic which is not dangerous. Gamma rays are the opposite of alpha particles in a way. They penetrate a long way into materials without being stopped. This means they are weakly ionising because they bend to pass through rather than colliding with atoms. Eventually they hit something and do damage. The only thing that block Gamma rays is thick lead and concrete. In the experiment I will be using lead. In 1896 Henri Becquerel was investigating materials, which glow when placed in an x-ray beam. Curious to find out if strong sunlight caused uranium salt to glow. It was clear that uranium salts emit penetrating radiation, which can blacken photographic film. More interested in x-rays, Becquerel passed the challenge of further investigations on to one of his students, Marie Curie. Within a few years, Marie Curie discovered other elements such as thorium, which are radioactive. One of these elements, radium, was found to be over 1 million time more radioactive than uranium. Photographic film can be used to detect radiation. Radiation was first discovered by accident when Henri Becquerel left some uranium on some photographic plates, which became fogged by it. These days photographic film is useful way of detecting radiation. Workers in the nuclear industry or those using x-ray equipment such as dentists and radiographers wear little blue badges which have a little bit of photographic film in them. The film is checked every now and then to see if it has become fogged too quickly, which would mean the person was getting to much radiation. The nature of radioactive radiation. Alpha radiation was s...

7 talent mistakes that are destroying your bottom line
7 talent mistakes that are destroying your bottom line Recruiting and managing talent has become one of the hottest topics in this hiring market, both for boots on the ground recruiters and the executives who are tasked with strategizing and organizing. If you find youââ¬â¢re getting frustrated by the challenges and stresses of talent management, youââ¬â¢re certainly not alone- but it doesnââ¬â¢t have to be that way. Letââ¬â¢s look at some of the pitfalls you may be experiencing, and how theyââ¬â¢re sabotaging your best efforts.1. Limiting diversity to the hiring processOnce youââ¬â¢ve found and hired a diverse team, that checks off the diversity success box, right? Not quite. Finding diverse talent is a great first step, but you need to keep up that momentum among employees, and not just new recruits. Itââ¬â¢s important to keep considering how to manage diversity on an ongoing basis, well after the team is in place. Are team leads equipped to manage a diverse team? Are diverse team members supported, culturally, or are they expected to blend in with the homogenous corporate identity?Another key mistake in this area is thinking too narrowly about diversity, and not considering diversity beyond the obvious gender and ethnic differences. Thereââ¬â¢s also cognitive diversity, which essentially means embracing different thinkers, people who have leadership styles that may seem unorthodox to your company, or personality types that havenââ¬â¢t typically had broad representation at your company before. Itââ¬â¢s about diversifying thought and perspective to maximize success, not just about diversifying the demographics.2. Prioritizing change for changeââ¬â¢s sakeEveryone wants to be innovative. But are you pushing innovation initiatives at the expense of things that are already working and clicking well? Think of it like those New Yearââ¬â¢s Day resolutions. In December, the status quo is happy and merry and full of sugary goodness. January 1, reality hits, and suddenly there are draconi an goals about fitness and diet as an immediate reaction. Try to see change management as a lifestyle change, not a crash diet. Make sure youââ¬â¢re taking stock of whatââ¬â¢s working with your talent management, and change things up when it feels right- not because you feel like you should be shuffling things around just to keep up with the times.3. Letting disagreement derail projectsHaving everyone sign off on every project isâ⬠¦unlikely. The whole point of having diversity in perspective is making sure that all angles of a project are considered. But when it comes time for the leaders to commit, they need to ensure that naysayers are willing to commit to the project- even if they disagree with the methods. Itââ¬â¢s not about making sure everyone comes around to a particular position, but rather that theyââ¬â¢re willing to go along with the leaderââ¬â¢s final assessment and plan.hbspt.cta.load(2785852, '9e52c197-5b5b-45e6-af34-d56403f973c5', {});And if there ar e serious fundamental disagreements, those have to be managed as well. Part of this can be done during the recruiting and hiring process, with interview questions designed around determining whether someone is a ââ¬Å"my way or the highwayâ⬠type of team member, or someone who is comfortable expressing differences, but also being willing to commit to a larger vision.4. Assuming that recruiting priorities and larger company strategy are the same thingThis one can get tricky. Ostensibly, youââ¬â¢re hiring people who will serve the companyââ¬â¢s needs and strategies. But hiring is focused on the companyââ¬â¢s immediate needs- putting someone in place who can manage the day-to-day right away. That might not always square with where you want the company to go in the next year, three years, ten years. Overcoming this potential gap means focusing on growth goals on both the employee and company levels. This means creating a culture where goals are not only encouraged, but tra cked and managed against the larger company strategy. It means working with people at all levels- executive, managerial, and employee- to create achievable, specific goals that align with the companyââ¬â¢s strategic goals. This requires openness about the companyââ¬â¢s goals, and a two-way feedback program so that employees arenââ¬â¢t setting their own goals in a vacuum. Studies have shown that employees who feel informed about and engaged in company goals are more satisfied and productive in their jobs.5. Allowing a disconnect between talent and cultureIf your companyââ¬â¢s culture is very specific or static, you risk having training and recruiting efforts that arenââ¬â¢t aligned with the realities of working at the company. If employees are trained on processes that are in place just because they always have been in the past, then youââ¬â¢re essentially training them for the past. Talent is then conditioned toward aligning themselves with the status quo- not nece ssarily toward the kind of flexible thinking that could move things forward. This doesnââ¬â¢t mean you have to rewrite your company culture every time someone new comes along but think of the culture as a work in progress, with an emphasis on agility, change, and innovation in the service of the larger company goals. Make sure that your talent is being managed with an eye toward context, and make sure they understand the reasons why theyââ¬â¢re being asked to do their jobs a certain way.6. Not focusing on short-term talent developmentWith so much recruiting and management effort focused on employeesââ¬â¢ long-term goals, it can be easy to lose sight of the short-term goals that a) help them develop, and b) serve the company in the meantime. Instead of thinking only of the ââ¬Å"five-year plan,â⬠help employees see the ââ¬Å"five-month plan,â⬠and the steps they can take in the meantime.Giving employees opportunities to engage in your organization and join committ ees, make presentations, or lead projects can help short-term development and ensure that employees donââ¬â¢t feel stagnant in their roles- and start looking to take their talents elsewhere.7. Not relying on a core group of ââ¬Å"company evangelistsâ⬠When it comes down to handing down strategy or goals, donââ¬â¢t forget that your company has an infrastructure in place for supporting and communicating that vision throughout the company. Sometimes called the ââ¬Å"top 100,â⬠this group is typically the CEO, his or her direct reports, and the level of direct reports below that. These employees are familiar with both the company strategy and also what it means in the day-to-day for their teams, so lean on them to make sure that information is communicated and supported throughout the company network. Making sure that you have the support and engagement of this core group will help spread the word to all levels of the company, making it feel less like a royal edict and more like a collective project.None of these mistakes are fatal for a company, but making them can absolutely slow your progress toward your corporate goals. You want your talent management to be as efficient and painless as possible, so knowing and avoiding these common mistakes will definitely benefit you in both the short and the long run.

The Cold War and U.S Diplomacy Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
The Cold War and U.S Diplomacy - Essay Example In the context of the United States, presidential doctrines normally consist of attitudes and major goals for the countryââ¬â¢s foreign relations as outlined by a seating President. It is of essence to note that Presidential doctrines are usually established in order to address certain events that are ongoing in the international arena, and therefore, the Presidential doctrine presents guidelines on how the country will handle or approach the prevailing regional or global event. The previous research paper, focused on the Reagan doctrine that was developed and implemented during Ronald Reganââ¬â¢s presidency. Troy (2011) stated that the Reagan doctrine was established mainly to curtail or diminish the influence of the Soviet Union during the Cold War era. During the Cold War era, the Soviet Union committed aggressions and oppression on the citizens of the territories that it had occupied and even violated human rights of theses citizens. Therefore, the Reganââ¬â¢s doctrine was aimed at diminishing the Soviet Union hold on these territories and securing the rights and freedom of those who had suffered under the rule of the Soviet Union. The relationship between the United States and Soviet Union prior to the announcement of the Reganââ¬â¢s doctrine According to Graham et al. (2011), the United States and the Soviet Union had long been at loggerheads with each other mainly because of their difference in terms of political and economical ideologies. Prior to the announcement of the Reganââ¬â¢s doctrine, the two countries had been engaged in a battle for supremacy, with the United States constantly trying to diminish the dominance of the Soviet Union both in the Eastern and Western Union, where the U.S had already established political and economic ties. Graham et al. (2011) wrote that the severity of the bad relationship between the two countries was demonstrated when the U.S extended its Marshal plan to the Soviet Union under certain conditions that were known to be unacceptable by the Union. Additionally, prior to the announcement of the Regan doctrine, Troy (2011) wrote that the U.S and its allies in Western Europe opted to strengthen their relationship and spite the Soviet Union. The current relationship between the U.S and the Soviet Union According to the writings by Graham et al. (2011), they wrote that despite the end of the Cold War in November 1989, the U.S and the post-Soviet Russia still do not enjoy a cordial rel ationship. Moreover, certain occurrences have alluded to the existence of a prevailing Cold War between the two nations. Hunt (2009) stated that the two countries have traditionally up-to-date failed to agree on certain global issues. For example, Russia has recently provided asylum for an American whistleblower (Edward Snowden) who is currently wanted in the U.S for espionage charges. Secondly, the U.S and Russia have taken opposing stands on the on-going civil war in Syria whereby the U.S government is seemingly backing the Syrian opposition rebels while Russia is purpotedly supporting the Syrian government. Thirdly, Russiaââ¬â¢s President Vladimir Puttin has treated, in numerous occasions, U.S government officials including with Secretary of the State John Kerry, with a demeaning approach. The effect of the Reagan doctrine on regional or global affairs since its

Lemkinââ¬â¢s parents were Joseph and Bella Lemkin. He had two siblings. His father was a farmer whereas his mother was a highly educated woman who engaged in philosophical, linguistic, and art-related works. Lemkinââ¬â¢s was greatly influenced by his mother and the achievements she was able to attain. At the age of 14years, for example, he was well versed with about 14 languages, an aspect that was difficult to many people (Hovannisian 125). Raphael Lemkin attended a local trade school and upon graduation, he went to Ukraine to study Linguistics at John Casmir University. While at the university, Raphael Lemkin developed an interest in the field of criminology and thus the issue of genocide. This urge made him to enroll in the University of Heidelberg located in Germany for a degree in philosophy. It was later that he studied law and became a prosecutor. He advanced gradually into his lawyer occupation (Hovannisian 127). In regard to his career and work experience, Lemkin worked for different law firms in different capacities. He did this in collaboration with Malcolm McDermott, a law professor at Duke University (Martin par 7). His interest in crime grew day after day and it brought about the issue of genocide which was founded on the American Genocide. The Simile Massacre of 1933 in Iraq also fueled the genocide concept. It was in 1934 that Lemkin resigned his job for a position of a private solicitor.

A New Era of Terrorism Essay example -- Terrorism
Since September 11th, when the Twin and Pentagon towers were hit by planes, controlled by Middle Eastern Muslim terrorists. The perception toward Muslims being violent has been spread throughout the world. Innocent people who have never been involved in any crime act are being limited in practicing their religious duties. To be more exact, Freeman vs. Florida case ruled that Freeman has to take her veil off when taking a photo for a state driverââ¬â¢s license. The State argued that it had a compelling interest in the full-face photograph requirement because promotes safety and security, combats crime, and protects interstate commerce. The importance of a driverââ¬â¢s license is clearly known, not only for driving matters, but also identification document even when using a credit card. Freeman claimed that, wearing a veil is a Muslim womanââ¬â¢s duty, as well as driving for her is a must because of her daily routine. Freeman suggested that the free exercise of religion is pro tected under Article I, Section 3 of the Florida Constitution, which grounds the right to religious freedom. Cases like this have allowed the Criminal Justice System to give birth to other ways of identifying people. Todayââ¬â¢s generation of portable electronic measurement devices offer new possibilities. A routine police patrol pulls over a vehicle for traffic violation. Instead of asking for driverââ¬â¢s license, the officer snaps a digital picture of the drivers face and transmits it back to the localization via a wireless link in the patrol vehicle. The picture is compared against a facial image database, a match found, and the identity of the driver flashed up on the officerââ¬â¢s in-car terminal; without needing the cooperation of the driver, who may be incapacitated or abusi... ...o accommodate individual beliefs. Thus, until biometric identification has been fully studying and implemented, the utmost importance is public safety. Public safety should continue to outweigh those feeling that showing your face for a driverââ¬â¢s license is a blow to their religious freedom. Works Cited Armstrong, C. (2003, June 12).
